Committee Information

School Leadership-Rachel

This is just a sample survey--testing, testing 123. I will be using this sheet to convey info as well as sending out surveys to get feedback--we won't always have to meet to discuss these topics! :)

September School Leadership Info--bear with me--I just finished with vending a half ton of pork--day 2!! I am out of it!!
1. Our school's mission is Learning Today for Tomorrow, which is easy to remember and to share with others. However, our vision is a bit lengthy and the school leadership team feels that it can be simplified to be our RAMS motto, which in short summarizes our vision anyway. If you would like to see the vision statement, see me. If you are ok with our vision statement being our RAMS motto, you do not have to get back to me on this. Only respond of you disagree or want to see the vision statement first.

2. Our RAMS chant, courtesy of Carol MacFarland is:
RAMS--TRY TO DO THE RIGHT THING (hey)
RAMS--NOW LISTEN TO ME (yeah)
RAMS--SO HEAR WHAT WE SING:
Respect
Achieve
Make good choices
Succeed (YEAH)
(REPEAT)

Let me know about any problems or concerns that you may have with #1 (vision) and/or #2 (chant) by Oct. 1st.

3. By November, Stacey would like for us to come up with some RAMS motto rules concerning hallways, cafeteria, bus/sidewalk, playground, restroom, special events, and the classroom. We would like to have consistent, across the school RAMS motto-supporting rules for our school. School leadership team will be working on compiling, but what we need to do as a grade level is choose an area (as listed above in bold), one per class, and have our students help us brainstorm rules for that area (ie Mrs. Davis' class covers/discusses/records rules for hallway). I will further explain this at our next grade level, b/c I know this is confusing.

4. Division Leadership Team info: still divided on the RIF policies and is being looked at further; Ryan will be getting another survey out to us. He will mention this at the FIESTA. Will still be looking at Elem./Secondary differences for rubric, and will further look at what constitutes/counts as highly qualified.
A five year recovery plan is also being discussed and input will be requested at some point (?)--need to come up with a way to get "back on track".
The Education Jobs Bill could allow us to receive funds for a position such as an intervention specialist--this is not guarenteed to happen and would probably not be a permanent position if it does happen.

5. Playground update:
--a kick ball field for back playground area is supposed to be going in sponsored by little league (I think it was little league...)
--may be able to get a grant for back playground; Stacey is still working/looking into it and will be deciding soon so that she can get this info to PTO.

6. HOMEWORK:
I put an article on each of your desks and it needs to be read before the FIESTA. We will be discussing this article with our Rose groups from our first FIESTA.

7. I have Stacey's Goals for this school year--I will copy these and pass out at the next grade level meeting. Our goals as a grade level need to match hers, as in same format (measurable). Individual goals should also match. Stacey meet with teachers at the end of September/beginning of October to discuss goals. She would like to be able to give us time for assessments. She is going to let us know more about this when she knows the timeframe she needs to meet (as in how much time she can give us before meeting).

Ok ladies, I hope this makes sense. I will clarify anything you need--just let me know!!

October School Leadership Info:
1. Since there were no objections, the RAMS motto will now also serve as our vision statement and the RAMS cheer will stay as is (as seen/heard on announcements).
2. Please remember to have your students help you come up with rules for RAMS in the assigned area from last meeting. I need these before my next leadership meeting which is Nov. 4th.
3. Remember to sign up for goals/objective conference with Stacey. Forms have been sent out. Sign up is in the office.
4. I have SIP information that I will be sharing with you as soon as printable copies of the goals/objectives are available to us. SIP (school improvement stuff--like our half day planning meetings) is required of us since we did not make AYP. One thing that I want to make you aware of is that we need to be using CRISS strategies in our rooms. Admin. will be popping in to observe throughout the year. They want to see us modeling and using graphics--more info such as a rubric will be available to us soon. We will also be receiving training on using learning logs. More info on all of this is coming...as soon as it is available to me, I will get it all to you!
5. The read aloud list given to us at our Tuesday meeting is simply a suggested reading list. You do not have to plan any units or anything around it. You are just encouraged to read aloud to your class often/daily and to discuss the books you are reading with your students. The list is simply a guide for picking out good books. :)
6. Ryan's meeting is Monday--get him your feedback on the calendar and RIF rubric as soon as possible. You can also send it to me or post here and I will be sure to send it his way!
7. Because of SIP we will also be participating in a school-wide book club this year. This is for all professional staff. It will begin around the end of October. We will be reading and then discussing the reading at our FIESTAs. One of the titles will be Catching Readers Before They Fall. More info is to come from Stacey/Mandy around the end of Oct.
8. Handwriting books have been ordered!! This delay was out of our Admin.'s hands, or we would have had them sooner. They will be here soon. Stacey wants us to be sure to teach handwriting and to hold children accountable for their handwriting!

And last but not least...
Reminder:
Don't forget to bring an example of reflective teaching to the FIESTA on Thursday! You can write it down or just share it orally with your roses group.

Any feedback email me or add to this, please!! Thanks!!

January School Leadership:
1. Ryan shared that the state is required to develop a RIF rubric in order to still receive specific funding that it has been receiving previously. Therefore, our school board is not moving forward on the RIF rubric b/c the state is completeing one which will be in effect 2012-2013. The state's is closely alligned with the one that we were discussing for our county.

2. The 2011-2012 calendar has passed (Ryan already sent these out). We must work 2 flex days. The calendar will be available for viewing on the shared drive.

3. The quarterly report is being passed around. Read, check off, and return to me please.

4. Our school-wide RAMS mottoes/expectations have been compiled/edited and will be available for your viewing pleasure at the next FIESTA!

5. On the 27th of Jan. we will meet during our normal planning times to discuss data. On the 28th you may take off if you have already worked enough days (2 flex). Let Stacey know. She spoke about coming up with sheet for us to sign if we wanted to take that one off.

6. Shenandoah County is now in a division-wide state pilot for RTI. All 3 elementary schools, Signal Knob, and Strasburg High are a part of this.

7. Mandy wanted us to let her know about our spelling data--does everyone use PALS only for a spelling inventory? I told her that I thought we all did, but let me know if that is not accurate. She wants there to be consistency across the grade levels. She was discussing a data sheet for upper grades, but thought that we would be ok with ours as is, since we use the PALS and our data sheets already include the features scores (the "break-down"). Get back to me about this if you use something else, other wise I will be telling her that we use PALS.

OK--Thanks ladies!
